Past VIP Trips
Cabo, Mexico 2018

I was invited to lecture at the Second Veterinary Education Conference in Small Animals Surgery in Shanghai. This was followed by visiting Xian (with the famous Terracotta warriors) and the greater Shanghai area. This included Suzhou, “the Venice of the East”, and Qibao, the old quarter of Shanghai. We were very lucky to witness a fisherman use cormorants to fish (see picture). We visited several clinics in Shanghai and Xian.

Turks and Caicos 2014
I volunteered at the only full-time clinic providing veterinary care on the island in Providenciales (“Provo”). Among others, I performed ACL surgery, hip surgery (FHO) and the 1st tie back surgery ever on the island. Importing the right suture material (0 Prolene) from the US on short notice was an adventure by itself! We snorkeled daily and visited the only conch farm, which is very interesting.
A recommendation: Las Brisas Restaurant. If you go, you have to make a reservation to be able to eat in the gazebo, which sits at the edge of the water, giving you an amazing view of the bay.

I was invited to lecture at the First International Veterinary Conference in Istanbul. This was followed by a trip to the Bursa veterinary school, a visit to bear sanctuary in Bursa, getting lost in several bazaars, a boat tour on the Bosphorus and so much more. This was my 1st time in Asia (Turkey is 1% in Europe and 99% in Asia) and an incredible trip.

For our 2nd VIP trip, we took some colleagues (and their families) to Mexico (Dreams Tulum Resort, Tulum, Riviera Maya). In addition to a serious CE program, we visited the Tulum ruins. Located about 130 km South of Cancun, Tulum is a 13th-century Mayan archaeological site. It’s very unusual because it overlooks the ocean.
Topics covered: orthopedics, soft tissue surgery and oncology.
