Past VIP Trips

Turks and Caicos 2016

I volunteered at the only full-time clinic providing veterinary care on the island of Providenciales (“Provo”). Among others, I performed surgery on a dog with a patellar luxation and removed a giant tumor from a dog’s caudal thigh muscles. It turned out to be an extra-skeletal osteosarcoma!

We rode horses on the beach and in the ocean!

I highly recommend two restaurants:

The “Grace Bay Club” at the Grace Bay Resort. The food is truly amazing. Say Hi to Chef Wolfgang and check out the Infinity Bar.

For a very different style, Da Conch Shack is a small restaurant with good food literally on the beach!

We visited neighboring North Caicos Island, which is truly gorgeous. You have to take a ferry to go there; then you have to rent a car. We drove around the island, stopped at a few gorgeous beaches (the only other visitor at one of them was a pelican), snorkeled, and we visited a cave inhabited by bats.

China 2014

I was invited to lecture at the First Veterinary Education Conference in Small Animals Surgery last September in Shanghai. This was followed by visiting Shanghai, Weifang, and Beijing. Among others, I visited several vet clinics, museums, the Beijing vet school, the Great Wall, Pudong, a few traditional markets and so much more.

Turks and Caicos 2014

I volunteered at the only full-time clinic providing veterinary care on the island in Providenciales (“Provo”). Among others, I performed ACL surgery, hip surgery (FHO) and the 1st tie back surgery ever on the island. Importing the right suture material (0 Prolene) from the US on short notice was an adventure by itself! We snorkeled daily and visited the only conch farm, which is very interesting.

A recommendation: Las Brisas Restaurant. If you go, you have to make a reservation to be able to eat in the gazebo, which sits at the edge of the water, giving you an amazing view of the bay.

St. Maarten 2013

Our 4th VIP trip included vets and techs (and their families) at the Almond Beach Village. We had three speakers, Kurt Grimm (anesthesiologist), Jen Grimm (radiologist) and Phil Zeltzman (surgeon).

We had a diverse CE program. Extracurricular activities included horseback riding on the beach and a tour around the island on a catamaran. Topics covered: anesthesia, imaging, orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, general surgery and oncology

Barbados 2012

Our 3rd VIP trip included vets and techs (and their families) at the Almond Beach Village. We had two speakers, Eric Lindquist (ultrasonographer) and myself (surgeon). Barbados was beautiful, with its pristine, white sand beaches.

We had a solid CE program. Extracurricular activities included the National Park (with green monkeys and giant turtles), the impressive Harrison’s cave, and a tour around the island on a catamaran. A fulfilled a lifelong dream: swimming among sea turtles – an amazing experience!

Topics covered: orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, general surgery, neurology, oncology, and ultrasound

Turkey 2010

I was invited to lecture at the First International Veterinary Conference in Istanbul. This was followed by a trip to the Bursa veterinary school, a visit to bear sanctuary in Bursa, getting lost in several bazaars, a boat tour on the Bosphorus and so much more. This was my 1st time in Asia (Turkey is 1% in Europe and 99% in Asia) and an incredible trip.

Mexico 2010

For our 2nd VIP trip, we took some colleagues (and their families) to Mexico (Dreams Tulum Resort, Tulum, Riviera Maya). In addition to a serious CE program, we visited the Tulum ruins. Located about 130 km South of Cancun, Tulum is a 13th-century Mayan archaeological site. It’s very unusual because it overlooks the ocean.

Topics covered: orthopedics, soft tissue surgery and oncology.

Dominican Republic 2009

In October 2009, we took our 1st group of colleagues (and their families) to the Dominican Republic (Majestic Colonial Resort, Punta Cana). Our maiden VIP trip was such a raving success that it inspired us to continue our mission.
